Eating too quickly and not chewing sufficiently may lead to excessive stretching of the pouch or blockage of the outlet. Both of these conditions may lead to discomfort, pain, and nausea and perhaps even damage to the pouch, which at its worst, could lead to serious complications and even further surgery.

Food of good nutritional value should be eaten, (for there is no room for filling food of no goodness), proteins, a little fat and moderate carbohydrate is required.

Fluids should be withheld until well before or well after meals, NOT with them for that will cause vomiting or perhaps wash the food through too quickly, leading to hunger.

Additional vitamins are added for the first few months and these should be taken preferably as a liquid mix. More details are included later in this booklet.

All fluids taken once solids are added to the diet should be no-cal. or low-cal. that is diet soft drink, tea, coffee with perhaps a little added skim milk, or water.
